Ellen Johnston and her parents Ned and Janice were guests. Ellen shared her experiences teaching in Wales, China, Austria, and Taiwan and currently in Nigeria.

News in and around Rippey:

Phil and Toni Roberts drove to Algona on Sept. 11 for a surprise birthday party for Toni’s sister Joyce Macek. Toni had coordinated the party with her niece Stacy Barber of Algona also.  On the way they picked up Toni’s sister-in-law Veronica Averill in Fort Dodge.  Other members of the family attending from Rippey were Tim and Lori Bardole and Chris and Brenda Roberts. Their grandson Marshall Roberts of Emmetsburg and Toni’s nephew Tim Averill of Fort Dodge were also able to attend. It was a great surprise and after refreshments of cake and ice cream the group had fun “catching up” on family news. The event was held in the community room of Huscamp Haven, the assisted living facility where Joyce resides.

The very next day they did a “birthday run” to Winterset to deliver presents for their granddaughters Sarah Bradley and Josephine Burkett.  Sarah’s birthday was Sept. 8 and Josie’s birthday was the following Thursday, Sept 15.  Although the visits were short they were able to see Sarah and Corey Bradley’s new place of residence-a nice acreage north of Winterset where Corey teaches school. Josie was between activities and got to open her gift while they were there.

On Sunday the couple attended a combination house warming and baby shower at the home of Gregg and Karen Rooney in Churdan. Other family attending were Tim and Lori Bardole and Chris and Brenda Roberts of Rippey, Schyler and Lauren Bardole of Adaza, Corey and Sarah Bradley and sons Camden and Corbyn of Winterset and Courtney Roberts and daughters Olivia and Emmalynn of Urbandale.  Many of the couple’s friends also attended to see the couple’s new “digs” and celebrate the upcoming birth of their baby. After leaving the party Phil and Toni stopped in Jefferson on the way home for a brief visit with their son Matthew who was on call for EMS, thus unable to leave town for the party.
